First-year accommodation

You will be prioritised accommodation no matter where you live now as long as you:

  • will be a single, first-year undergraduate studying at UCL for the first time
  • have chosen UCL as your firm choice through UCAS by the deadline (currently 31 May of the year of entry)
  • submit youraccommodation application online before the deadline (currently 31 May of the year of entry)
  • have not lived or studied at a university in London (inside the M25 motorway) before.

What are my options?

At UCL there are two types of accommodation, you can choose from:

  • Halls of Residence – meals are included (usually breakfast and an evening meal on weekdays, Monday to Friday and brunch on Saturday and Sunday)
  • Student Houses – you prepare your own meals in shared kitchen facilities (cooker, refrigerator, freezer and microwave).

The majority of the accommodation available is managed by UCL. Some accommodation is managed by partner providers such as the University of London or private operators.

What does UCL Accommodation offer you?

All of our accommodation at UCL includes a study-bedroom equipped with a bed, desk/table, desk chair and wardrobe.

In addition, the majority of our accommodation includes on-site or shared facilities such as a TV lounge, computer room and bicycle racks. Some of our catered and self-catered halls provide shared study-bedrooms (for two students). Sharing a room is very cost-effective, with shared room rates lower than single room rates – and it’s a good way to make new friends on arrival!

Support and security built in

All UCL allocated accommodation is managed and run by experienced and knowledgeable  managers and live-in Student Residence Advisors (SRAs) . Their responsibilities range from pastoral care to out of hours support. Access and security are always carefully monitored at all of our halls so you can rest assured that support, whether pastoral or practical, will be on hand.

What is included in your fees?

UCL accommodation is offered for 39 weeks and our fees include:

  • room rental and use of communal area
  • utility charges, maintenance and cleaning of communal areas
  • basic contents insurance
  • vibrant accommodation communities led by residents
  • Wi-Fi access

Most UCL student accommodation is located in central London (Zone 1 or 2 of London’s public transport network), so you will not have to travel far to access the wide variety of events, entertainment and resources London has on offer. Most of our accommodation is within 10–30 minutes’ walk from the UCL Bloomsbury campus, so you will save on travel times and costs.
