Sutherland, Scottish Highlands, Scotland
The cottage is part of an extensive refurbishment carried out on the original cow barn using traditional stonework and cedar logs from Pioneer Log Homes of Canada. Tastefully decorated using local tweeds and traditional furnishings complemented by modern appliances used in a contemporary way. The area is world renowned for its stunning scenery, wildlife, food and drink and friendly local communities. Not so well known is the low rainfall and mild climate due to the Atlantic Gulf Stream, with glorious summers and beautiful long sunsets throughout the year. The dark sky is a stunning sight with the stars clearly visible, particularly here in Altass. The cottage is situated in the small hamlet of Rosehall which is surrounded by magnificent salmon fishing rivers and trout lochs, woodland walks and a welcoming local hotel serving delicious food. A perfect base for touring, being based midway between west, north and east coasts, where the varied coastline is a magnet for wildlife and birdwatching.

It's a nice warm house, with everyting you need. Privacy, but when you have a quistion the owners are in the naberhood and willing to help. Spotting place for deer in the area walking, fishing.
Fantastic house, beautiful location and lovely hosts. Definitely plan on heading back there in the near future.
Lodge was very clean and well stocked up. The owners were also staying onsite and were very friendly and happy to give advice on places to eat or visit nearby and also left a basket of food and a bottle of wine on arrival which was much appreciated. Lovely place to stay, the only thing I’d say was the bed mattresses were a bit hard. Would highly recommend booking here.
Thank you so much for your review and your recommendation for Am Bathach. We will pass on your comment regarding the mattresses which, of course, are always a matter of personal choice.
We had a lovely time .Jennifer and Marcus were helpful without being intrusive .The hamper cake and eggs were lovely touches .The cottage was well appointed and our dog was also made welcome by their dogs .Good spot for touring the highlands .
A wonderful property in the most stunning location. The welcome hamper was excellent (as was the cake!) and we were made to feel very welcome by the owners and their family, without intrusion. Our dogs enjoyed running around the grounds with owners dogs too. We found the property a real home from home and we are already looking at when we can return.
A beautiful, cozy, big and clean appartement with a lot of love for details. We felt very comfortable and home from the first moment. Our hosts Jennifer and Marcus were so welcoming, that our heart was a little bleeding, when it was time to leave. Thanks again for the great time!
We had an amazing stay. Setting is lovely. Host is so helpful and made us feel very welcome. Perfect spot to explore the highlands.
A lovely cottage with everything you need for a very comfortable stay. Lots of walking trails nearby and the coast not too far away.
Wonderful location, property and proximity to a couple of nice restaurants in Rosehall and Lairg. On-site ownership/ host absolutely superb. Unfortunately Rural Retreats staff worthless when looking to find the property. Directions could have been so much simpler.
Beautiful place and fantastic people
Wonderful stay! delightful hosts, Jennifer and Marcus are lovely people and would highly recommend this place. Hope to stay again in the future.
Great stay, lovely hosts in a great location
The hosts were very welcoming and made our check in easy. They had provided a luxurious hamper and were available throughout our stay for any questions or advice we may have needed. The cottage, although small, was well equipped and furnished. The steps to the bedroom which was upstairs were steep. It was fine for us, but would be unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems.
Very well equipped cosy cottage. On site owners helpful and friendly & with added bonus of having a shooting lesson. Great location away from the NC500.
We had the best time at Am Bathach, super setting with a lovely and super clean lodge. The shower also fab!! Both Jennifer and Marcus were very welcoming (as well as Hector and Coco their dogs) and full of knowledge of the area, so we got to explore some beautiful places. They provided us with a great hamper full of goodies as well as a delicious cake on arrival. We also took part in the shooting that Marcus hosts which was a great experience. I most certainly would recommend this place to anyone it was fantastic and we didn’t want to leave.
Lodge was fantastic, had everything you would need for a few days away. Hosts were very welcoming as well which always helps.
We had a lovely time in Am Bathach. Fabulous place, beautifully decorated and with everything you need. Lovely and warm welcome too. We stayed 6 days and could have stayed more. Really good location to explore Sutherlands and around. Thank you Jennifer and Marcus for all your recommendations. We would warmly recommend.
Beautifully appointed property in a great setting and situation.
Excellent location, beautifully decorated and full of extra touches such as towels/ biscuits for our dog. Jennifer and Marcus were excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend for a very special place to stay and enjoy Sutherland.
Perfect location to relax with lots of walking in the nearby woods, and quiet roads to explore all the beautiful tourist spots nearby by car. The property is beautifully decorated and furnished and is very comfortable. Dog friendly with lots of room for the dog to roam was a big benefit. The Welcome basket was just perfect. The hosts were friendly, approachable and very helpful in suggesting places to visit. The Highland Shooting Centre was a bonus. We will certainly try to visit again.
