  • Scenic site in the grounds of a country house in rural Carmarthenshire
  • A 20-minute drive to Llandeilo and the Brecon Beacons National Park
  • Boating lake with paddleboard and boat hire
Burrow down between the Brecon Beacons and the Cardigan coast at Little Cwtch Campsite in the quiet Cothi Valley in the Carmarthenshire countryside. Part of the historic grounds of Glanrannell Park House, you’ll be nicely tucked out of earshot of public roads with all the natural beauty and wildlife of the Afon Annell Valley around… look out for red kites overhead and heron, geese, wild ducks, pheasant and moorhens showing off around site. You’ll have plenty of space to stretch your legs here, as the site has a 200-metre river stretch (including a migration corridor), as well as a walled garden, a scenic riverside spinney and kunekune pigs, hens, calves and peafowl pottering around. Looking for something more energetic? The site has a boating lake too with paddleboards and boats for hire. When you fancy mixing things up with a meal out instead, the local pub is 25 minutes’ walk away from the site (or there are several pubs within 10 minutes’ drive of the site). If you're looking to rustle up something for the firepit or the barbecue, there are shops 20 minutes’ drive away too. Dogs are allowed on site but will need to be kept on a leash at all times as there are chickens and peacocks roaming around on site.

Liked: When you arrive you are treated to a friendly welcome and a genuine interest from the family running the site. It is a real haven in the Welsh hills and there are personal touches everywhere you turn. The lake by the house is beautiful and alongside sits a hot tub for those that want to relax with the view. There are hot showers!! There are standup paddle boards available, and my kids were rowing on the lake within minutes playing with the family dog chasing them around in the water. Beside our pitch was a river where the kids skimmed stones and built dams. Nearby, there is the gold mine at Dolaucothi and there's a great place for breakfast at Tudor Cafe in Llandovery. A walk in Caio woods is always a must, and there are just so many great places to go and explore. My boys and I slept well every night and when the stars were out it is just a magical place at night. On Saturday there was a food truck and bar which was a great place to meet and chat. It is without doubt one of the best places I have ever been camping. Thank you to all the family and others involved.

Disliked: I suppose you could niggle about the portaloos - they can be a bit stinky.. but no complaints other than that.

Liked: I can’t not express how much we loved our stay at little cwtch! It was the nicest campsite I’ve ever stayed at. The owners are extremely lovely and are always on hand to help you if needed. It is the most beautiful campsite with plenty to keep you and the children entertained. The boys absolutely loved using the paddle boards on the lake and rowing the little boat. There’s a beautiful quirky bar for adult and children refreshments, the food onsite was incredible, from take away pizzas to loaded chips and pittas! There is also a hot tub you can hire for such a reasonable price! On the Saturday night there was a singer which created the nicest vibe for everyone there. The setting is just picturesque! I can not express how nice the family are that run this campsite, I will 100% be returning, sooner rather than later! I have already recommended this campsite to lots of people who also cant wait to enjoy their visit at little cwtch! Thank you again for an incredible stay!!

Disliked: Nothing to dislike here!

Orchard Meadow non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The vibe was brilliant with evening entertainment on the Saturday night, the bar there was quirky and good value for money. Pitches were spacious and you could basically pitch you're tent where you want. Paddle boarding on the lake, lovely walks down the river, roaming animals everywhere and jacuzzi which kept the children entertained all weekend along with the amount of space they can play in.

Disliked: Facilities could be improved just for Myself due to my health condition but that's not the fault of the owners. Just my view.

Orchard Meadow non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The setting was beautiful. The owners and their family were very welcoming and helpful. The boating lake was just knee deep so quite safe for the younger children to try the boats and paddle boards. (Which for us 5 families travelling with a total of 9 children between 3-11 years old) was definitely a bonus. The trickling stream at the bottom of the site was so much fun for all the family to take a walk down stream. We had a choice of camping in either the orchard or riverside… we chose the orchard but would have been happy with either. The live music and food vans in the evenings alongside the wonky table pub were a very welcome extra. Little things that made a difference…. The animals (the children loved seeing the pigs, chickens, horses and peacocks) the swinging hammock, the hideaway tables and shelter. The lighting around the lake and campsite at dusk was just ‘stunning’…. Truly a beautiful campsite. The toilets were portaloos which might not be to everyone’s taste but for us just added to the camping experience.(and were always clean) As well as the showers in tin sheds which were quite quirky.. and equally efficient and effective. We will definitely be returning!

Liked: Absolutely beautiful place and such helpful owners and staff - felt like we were camping in a friends garden. Great for the children who enjoyed playing in the river , paddle boarding on the lake and having fun in the hammock swing. Great singers on both nights we were there and was great to be able to purchase food from external local traders on both nights too. Shower and toilet facilities were spotless! Such a beautiful calm place to stay - we will definitely be back!

Liked: We had a lovely time at Little Cwtch campsite. The owners and staff were absolutely lovely, they couldn’t do enough for us. The setting is beautiful, there is a really relaxed friendly vibe there . The lake, river, bar, fire pits, outdoor hot tub, peacocks and beautiful grounds are a joy to experience. All the facilities were clean and tidy. We will definitely be booking again. 😊

Disliked: The fact that the owners are unable to get a full licence to open up the bar and offer live music on a regular basis.

Local attractions

Don’t worry about being short of things to do – the only known Roman gold mine in the UK, Dolaucothi Gold Mines, is five minutes’ drive away. There’s a whole host of market towns further out for things like independent shops, pubs, castles and activities – just scout out Llandovery (20 minutes), Llandeilo (20 minutes), Lampeter (20 minutes) and Cardigan (an hour and five minutes). For the active types among you, hike away in Caio Forest (10 minutes), Brecon Beacons National Park (20 minutes) and the wild and remote Mynydd Mallaen (half an hour). For two-wheeled adventures, there are mountain biking trails in Brechfa Forest (35 minutes). After some historic locations? National Trust sites include Dolaucothi Estate (10 minutes), Newton House (25 minutes) and Dinefwr (25 minutes). Castles and houses lie in wait in the Towy Valley (half an hour) too. Of course, save some time to check out the plant life at the National Botanic Garden of Wales (40 minutes) and to make the most of Carmarthen’s (45 minutes) shops, cinema, bowling and museum.
