  • Cosy adults-only site with mountain views in the Brecon Beacons
  • Just off the A4069, 25 minutes’ drive from Dinefwr and Llandeilo
  • In a Dark Sky Reserve with firepits provided; communal kitchen on site
If the thought of a break within driving distance of waterfalls, castles and gold mines makes you go starry-eyed, Cosmos Camping might be your missing jigsaw piece. This cosy over-16s-only site is just the place to rocket into the Brecon Beacons National Park. It's just off the epic A4069 (packed with dramatic climbs and mountain views), 25 minutes’ drive from Dinefwr and 35 minutes from the National Showcaves Centre for Wales. You’ll really get to look to the cosmos here too, as Alex and Bob (the new owners) have named the site for its location in a Dark Sky Reserve. Each pitch has a firepit (with logs available to buy on site) where you can keep warm while you catch the constellations, Milky Way and nebulas (when skies are clear). With views over the Black Mountains, it’s no surprise that walks are the real deal around here – and your dog can come too, as they’re permitted under close control (due to livestock). If that feels too strenuous, the pond and river are top picnic spots to watch wildlife in action – perhaps red kites overhead or bats in the wooded area at sunset. Come mealtimes, you’ll have use of the site’s communal kitchen facilities, including dishwashing sinks, hot water, a microwave, kettle, fridge-freezer, drying rack, 10-port USB charging station and emergency tea, coffee, sugar and milk. The bathroom has hand sanitisers, flushing toilets and two shower rooms with hot electric showers and sinks. It’s tents only on the spaced-out pitches, but there’s a car park at the base of the field and garden trolleys for transporting your gear.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Literally everything. By far the best place we have ever camped. The night sky was stunning, really large private plots to camp on and toilet facilities genuinely as good as what we have at home! The hosts are lovely people, and very helpful with anything you need. We will be coming back for sure!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Super friendly and attentive hosts. Nicely laid out pitches. Each pitch has a firepit. Clean and well thought out toilet/shower block. Fridge/freezer availability. Quiet campsite, perfect for relaxing. Dog friendly. No children or large groups. Little light pollution at night so perfect for stargazing.

Disliked: Due to its location you had to use the car to visit places, not a lot in walking distance.

From the manager: Thanks for this great feedback. Was lovely to meet you and we hope to see you back at Cosmos Camping in the future. Given the cloudy summer we have had, you timed it perfectly for some stargazing! We wish you safe travels, Bob & Alex

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The site was in an incredible location, with great views of the mountains and magical views of the stars in the evening. We were very lucky to have stayed on a clear night! The hosts are very welcoming and have everything you need for a camping trip. The facilities are modern and clean and even coffee and tea making facilities are available. There are a small amount of pitches which makes for a more intimate experience. We especially loved meeting the hosts 2 dogs :)

Disliked: Nothing

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Great camp in nature. Lovely peaceful surroundings. Excellent hosts who have really thought of everything for your stay. I liked that it was simple camping in nature with a few home comforts. If you don’t want a “holiday park” but are not quite up for wild camping this is for you. Great location, nestled in a dale on a quiet lane just off the A4069. Easy to find. Lovely views of the surrounding area. Excellent facilities - everything you could really need (plus some extra touches). Well equipped kitchen with sinks, fridge/freezer, microwave and kettle. Washing up liquid, towels, tea, coffee, milk all supplied. Handy clothes airer for damp towels etc. You can borrow freezer packs for cool bags. Very clean bathroom area. Lovely powerful showers with plenty of hot water. Well thought out – plenty of hooks for hanging up clothes/towels, baskets for toiletries and they even have an electric mop to keep the floor clean and dry. Hairdryers, plenty of mirrors and plug points. A few outdoor seating areas and a gazebo area for shelter. Trollies to move your gear from the car park (it’s really not an issue that you can’t park your car next to your tent). Extra touches – you can buy a range of coffees and ice creams on site. Firewood and kindling also available to buy. Free Wi-Fi. Plenty of information on local attractions. Great recycling facilities. Areas of the camp are left unmowed to provide wildflowers for wildlife

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The view from my tent of the black mountain was fabulous and the A4069 mountain pass is very close. The site owners were very nice and both came out to meet me and the facilities were great, fridge, freezer, kettle... Toilets and showers were also good and all were very clean. Pitch was good and pegs went in ok.

Disliked: The rain and the speed cameras on the black mountain pass.... (No phone signal but free WiFi)

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: No wonder this has a 10 Rating on Pitch Up. It was perfect, from the lovely welcome from the owner, to the well spaced pitches and the absolutely spotless and modern facilities. It's in a beautiful part of Wales; breathtaking mountain views and sights of Red Kites. I can't praise it enough, can't wait to come back with my dog again.

Disliked: The only thing that I disliked was that I personally couldn't stay longer.
