  • Off-grid hideaway deep in the Powys countryside
  • A 45-minute drive from Aberystwyth or Powis Castle
  • Family-friendly breaks in a convenient location close to the A470
Picturing a break in the Powys countryside? Then you'll probably be quite chuffed with Ty Llewelyn Glamping and Camping, a 13-acre rural site surrounded by gorgeous Powys greenery. Located just under a mile from the A470 and within a five-minute drive of the small market town of Llanidloes, this spot is a proper off-grid hideaway with access to a wealth of views, wildlife and local Mid Wales attractions. Families are very welcome to come and stay for a spell at Ty Llewelyn Glamping and Camping – kids will surely appreciate the extensive woodlands, where they're free to make their own games and reconnect with nature. Other quality family activities like barbecues and campfires are allowed here too, and with good night-time visibility you can look forward to storytelling under the stars. Llanidloes on the River Severn is within walking distance if you fancy staying local and is home to a bakery, a well-stocked supermarket, a pub and a takeaway. Keep following the road along and you'll soon reach Llyn Clywedog (15 minutes' drive), a large reservoir with historic miners' buildings, fishing opportunities, an impressive concrete dam and spectacular views over 615 acres of water. The Wales Coast Path is also within reach, and Ty Llewelyn Glamping and Camping is roughly three quarters of an hour from attractive seaside towns like Aberystwyth.

2 bedroom safari tent (no pets)

Liked: The campsite is wonderfully peaceful. The river is a dream for playing in and the glamping tents are really well laid out. The owner is the most helpful lady I have ever met!

Disliked: The public toilets may require checking a little more often to have bins emptied etc but I think the kind owner needs a little more support with the campsite as she is busy looking after guests.

2 bedroom safari tent (no pets)

Liked: The safari tent was perfectly set up for a family of 5. The views and site are beautiful and Maria goes above and beyond to make your stay wonderful. We stayed as an extended family and it couldn't have been a better place to do this.

Disliked: Slightly steep banks and step off of the safari tent decking just worth being aware of with very little children.

Bell tent (pet friendly)

Liked: Liked the view and area was nice and quiet. Most of the things we needed was there.

Disliked: There was not many places to go for a nice walk with dog, tent was too small for 4 people's . Toilet wasn't emptied for 4 days so poo reached the top. Mattress provided was very dirty . Would be nice to have grass cut on field opposite our tent

From the manager: Hi, Thank you for your review. It's such a shame you didn't mention any of this to me as I saw you every day you stayed and asked you if everything was ok to which you replied ‘Yes’. So I would like to have an opportunity respond to your comments. The mattress was new this season and always has a fresh clean mattress protector and sheet replaced after every stay and fresh bedding as an optional extra. It certainly is not filthy. When you first arrived I made it very clear as I do to all of my guests that if you need anything I am just a call / text away, so if you feel your toilet was filling up you just needed to text me and I could have changed it….again why didn't you mention this when I would see you each day? The grass opposite the bell tents thus tear us actually our hay field and with the greatest will in the world this grass will not but cut until we have made hay….which is late this year due to the terrible rain we have had. As far as dog walks…..im not sure I need to respond to this…..we are in the centre of the most idyllic countryside with place like the Hafren Forest and Clywedog Dam literally on our door step…i literally can not believe you could not find anywhere to walk you dog?? It's just bizarre to say this. There are lots of suggestions of places of local interest and leaflets in the shed shop if you took the time you would have seen this. You would also have found the free wifi and access code I give to guests. The wifi fies not cover the whole site but it us accessable from the shed and it is free!! We take pride in running a lovely place for people to come and relax in and I'm so sorry you didn't gave a good time, despite your contradicting comments to me saying you were having a lovely time when I spoke with you? I hope that future guests looking at this will make up their own minds.

Non-electric hardstanding and grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: We decided to camp on a very rainy weekend . We got five minutes from the campsite and realised we forgot our tent poles ! The host was amazing and let us upgrade to the beautiful bell tents on site. She was super kind and accommodating. Absolutely beautiful location , the tent was stunning. There is a river on site, which you can swim in. All pitches are very spacious with fire pits. There is cute washing-up facilities and showers, including compost toilets. The location is in the heart of Wales , close to Elan valley . You won’t be disappointed. The host really made our stay. I have never felt so welcome . We will definitely return and highly recommend this site to future guest . A secret treasure . We are relatively new to camping . This site is definitely our favourite. Thank you :)

Liked: We loved the comfort and style details of the glamping bell tent. Accommodation was well spaced out and not busy when we stayed. We liked the wildness of the site itself and exploring the hills and the river. Marie the owner was friendly and helpful.

Non-electric hardstanding and grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: What a great site! Such a lovely location with gorgeous views all around - particularly the sunset. A very well set out, dog friendly, peaceful site with allocated toilet per pitch and shared warm shower. What more could you ask for! Maria made us feel so welcome, popping to see us each morning, providing ice packs and checking our wood supply for the fire pit.

Disliked: Nothing
