  • Hilltop cabin with views over to the isles of Islay, Gigha and Cara
  • A five-minute drive from Muasdale and 30 from Campbeltown
  • Hot tub, kitchenette, lounge area, ensuite, and Freeview TV
Cosy up in the comfy cabin at North Muasdale Farm and soak up the spectacular scenery – this spot sits on a hillside above Muasdale village and has views out over the Scottish islands of Islay, Jura, Gigha and Cara. This is a splendid retreat close to the Kintyre peninsula’s beaches, walking paths, bike trails and wildlife in Argyll and Bute, with useful facilities like a kitchen, an ensuite and access to Freeview and wifi. It's also a great option for drivers looking to experience the scenic Kintyre 66 route, as the accommodation here is just off the A83. A picnic bench for eating alfresco and a hot tub are placed outside the cabin as you gaze out across the farm and into the distance – don’t miss sunset, as the views at this time of day are especially spectacular. When you’ve had enough of sitting around and staring at the landscape, explore Kintyre. This peninsula in south-west Scotland is 30 miles long and runs from the Mull of Kintyre to East Loch Tarbert. The site is a mile from Muasdale, which has a shop, and 25 minutes from Campbeltown to catch a foot passenger ferry over to Ireland.

Local attractions

Wet your palate with the signature Campbeltown (25 minutes’ drive) single malts… with three whisky distilleries, each running tours and tastings, these are some excellent ways to unwind. Another peaceful afternoon can be tracked down on one of the local golf courses, such as the Machrihanish Golf Course (30 minutes) or the Dunaverty Golf Club (40 minutes). While you’re at the former, don’t forget to call by Machrihanish Bay (30 minutes), where gorgeous dunes are a prime picnicking and relaxing spot. Those of you who’d rather visit new horizons, across the water perhaps, can catch a car ferry from Kennacraig to the Isle of Islay (30 minutes), where whisky, seafood, birdlife and stunning stretches of sand are all on the menu. Another option for an escape over the water is the Isle of Gigha (an hour) – the car ferry leaves from Tayinloan. Once you alight, perhaps hire a bike and let yourself soak up the coastal landscapes on your pedals. While you’re holidaying, you may want to track down a local landmark too. Saddell Bay’s Antony Gormley sculpture (45 minutes) is an iron figure on the pretty beach, looking out over the ocean.

Byre View 1 bedroom shepherd's hut

Liked Everything. Catherine could not be anymore helpful. Ideal for the dogs with excellent beaches near by. Incredible views with a good seating area outside and wood fired hot tub. The farm eggs were a nice touch. Kitchen is well excellent. The hut is really well equipped and the shower/bathroom facilities are incredible for a hut. There’s a well equipped local shop or Campbeltown and Tarbert are an easy drive with supermarkets and places to eat. Carradale is also worth a visit. Will definitely be back.

Byre View 1 bedroom shepherd's hut

Liked We stayed in Byres View, and thought it was fantastic. The hut has been renovated and furnished to an excellent level. For its size the kitchen is really well equipped, absolutely loved the fresh eggs left for us. In a great location for touring round Kintyre. Excellent swimming spots nearby. Lovely hot tub and decked seating area, with views out over Gigha, Islay and Jura. We were really lucky to have incredible weather without, but the hut has a lovely stove, and would also make a great place to stay later in the year, and would be amazing for star gazing once the days get shorter again. Would absolutely stay ourselves again
