The Destination Summit: THINK DIFFERENTLY TO SURVIVE AND THRIVE takes place 14-15 March 2023.

In partnership with VisitBritain and Newcastle Gateshead Initiative (NGI), Destinations are invited to attend a day of learning, sharing, best practice and networking.

This year’s summit will run back-to-back with VisitBritain’s (VB’s) impact and legacy education series, taking place on Tuesday 14 March. Destinations invited to attend this event must register for mia’s Destination Summit as it is a separate event.

14:30- 15:00 The Challenging Nature of Events In the Current Climate: an association, corporate planner and agency perspective- Jacqui Kavanagh (EDGE Venues), Richard Waddington (Events Marketing Association), Claire Westgate (Echo Events & Association Management)

15:00- 15:30 Another View: a European and Global deep-dive into where the UK sits and what our role is

  • Hear from Jane Cunningham, Destinations International Director of European engagement. In her role, Jane is responsible for overseeing and developing a long-term engagement strategy for convention and visitor bureaus in Europe. Where does the UK fit and can we do more. This session will create debate and discussion and takeaways.

15:30 - 16:00 Working in Partnerships- The North East has been chosen for the first regional tourism pilot receiving £2.25 million from national government covering a period to March 2025.  The partnership led by NGI on behalf of the region, working alongside Visit Northumberland and Visit County Durham. Hear how this pilot will support and deliver for the destinations involved- Ian Thomas (Newcastle Gateshead Initiative)
