Britpop is just one of the many movements to come out of Great Britain. It was born in the 1990s as a reaction to the darker lyrical themes of the grunge movement, and was part of of a larger British popular cultural movement called Cool Britannia.
Bands such as Oasis, Blur, Pulp and Suede were the frontrunners of the movement, with later addtions such as Coldplay, Radiohead and The Verve.
