London/New York/Singapore - 06 October 2020:  Prominent talent leaders, top policy makers and leading global academics will join together in a virtual forum to debate the most pressing issues driving the skills gap within the financial services industry during the next decade and beyond at “Minds & Machines – The Road Back! Addressing the Skills Gap in Financial Services” on Wednesday, 14 October 2020 from 2pm (BST) / 9am (EDT) to 4.10pm (BST) / 11.10am (EDT).

The event will be moderated by Seb Dovey, Thought Leader-In-Residence for Fitch Learning, and feature a keynote speech by The Rt Hon. the Baroness Morgan of Cotes, formerly Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport of the United Kingdom.

In her speech, Baroness Morgan will share her thoughts on the approaches that should be considered for long-term professional development including:

  • Technology’s impact on financial services activities and future employee skills
  • Society’s drive for a more representative workforce (women in finance, BAME etc)
  • Business needs for long-term professional development (ref. Apprenticeships)
  • The inter-relationship between the industry of financial services and government

A roundtable panel will then take place amongst esteemed industry leaders, including Baroness Morgan, Livia Lam, Senior Fellow and Director of Workforce Development Policy at Center for American Progress, Nancy W. Gleason PhD, Director, Hillary Ballon Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, NYU Abu Dhabi, and Ryan Craig, Co-Founder and Managing Director of University Ventures and author of College Disrupted: The Great Unbundling of Higher Education.

The panel will discuss topics including future leadership, diversity, organisational culture, corporate ethics and sustainability, performance data, and talent management. Interactive voting will take place throughout the panel, which will enable participants to engage in an open debate on the latest trends and insights, from strategic imperatives to practical application.

Commenting on the event, Seb Dovey, Thought Leader-In-Residence for Fitch Learning, said: “The future success of financial services firms in the 2020s will depend upon the decisions it makes now around the development and deployment of its talent alongside the transformation of its operating models to adapt to the changing world around it. Before the global pandemic the industry was already seeking answers to digital disruption, commercial intensification and improvements in diversity. The pandemic has now added to this a total reappraisal of not just who works in the industry but how the industry works.”

Andreas Karaiskos, CEO of Fitch Learning, said: “We are delighted to be hosting another Minds & Machines event to offer industry stakeholders a clear insight into the strategic imperatives, market dynamics and transformational challenges that are facing our sector at this challenging time. By collaborating together with industry employers, key policy makers and the academic supply chain, we will we be able to future proof the talent needed for a dynamic and successful financial services industry.”
