Here at Currensea, we really wanted to provide a simple and convenient way to offset some of the environmental impact associated with your travels.

We are immensely proud to be partnering with the Eden Reforestation Projects, a leading educational charity and social enterprise, allowing you to automatically contribute some of your savings towards planting trees. The Eden Reforestation Projects has already planted over 697million trees in Madagascar, Haitai, Nepal, Indonesia, Mozambique, Kenya, Honduras, and Nicaragua.

How does it work?

1
You can choose to contribute a percentage of the savings you make using your Currensea travel debit card to plant trees.
2
For every 12p contributed, we’ll plant one tree on your behalf.

For example, if you choose to contribute one third of your transaction savings, and you spend $120 on a family lunch in New York. We’ll plant 8 trees for you.

You’ll be able to keep track of your forest with your Currensea personalised dashboard.

Which projects will you be supporting?

The Eden reforestation projects supports a number of projects, and you can support them in planting more trees.

Support poverty alleviation in Nepal using your Currensea travel debit card

Nepal

Nepal is one of the least developed countries in the world. Rural communities in Nepal depend on their natural environment for food, shelter, and income. When the environment is damaged and trees are cut down, those experiencing poverty are the first to feel the negative effects. Eden is working to support poverty alleviation and environmental restoration across Nepal with more than 12 million trees already planted.

Help restore Madagascar's mangrove forests using your Currensea travel debit card

Madagascar

Eden launched its Madagascar project sites in 2007 by restoring mangrove estuaries in the northwest part of the country. Mangrove forests are essential ecosystems whose dense roots serve as an anchor for the soil and coastline, preventing erosion and creating a barrier against harsh weather. What began as mangrove restoration and reforestation in 2007 grew to include a variety of native dry deciduous species in 2012.

Eden partners include two national park systems, which aim to reforest and revive natural habitats for endangered and endemic animal species.

Help plant, protect and guard Haiti's native trees using your Currensea travel debit card

Haiti

Haiti is one of the most environmentally degraded countries on earth. With 98% of its forests already gone, the UN estimates that thirty percent of Haiti’s remaining trees are destroyed each year. Charcoal production is a major cause of the continued deforestation of Haiti. Years of ecological devastation in Haiti have led to varying levels of crop failure, flooding, soil erosion, and water table depletion. To combat these effects, Eden works directly with community leaders to plant, protect and guard native trees to maturity. In doing so, Eden hopes to help restore the natural environment and implement agroforestry techniques to aid in food security.
