Making careers and outreach experiences accessible for visually impaired young people
Thursday 28 March 2024, 14:00-15:00
Join us on Thursday 28 March for a webinar led by the Royal Society for Blind Children exploring how you make your careers and outreach experiences accessible for visually impaired young people.
In the session, we’ll challenge common misconceptions around visual impairment, before discussing the importance of including visually impaired young people in STEM careers and outreach experiences. Supported by case studies and inspiring stories, we’ll look at best practice around accommodating the needs of visually impaired young people from education to the workplace and provide guidance on the support and services available to them.
Created to support The Code Driving inclusion pledge, this webinar is the first in a series looking at accessibility and is ideal for both Signatories and Supporters interested in making their activities and work inclusive for disabled young people.
How to talk about engineering and technology careers with young people
Tuesday 30 April 2024, 10:30-11:30
Join us on Tuesday 30 April for the second of our STEM careers focused webinars for 2024.
Following on from March’s webinar, 'The careers education landscape', that looked at the provision of careers guidance across the UK, this workshop explores techniques for engaging young people in conversations about a career in engineering and technology.
First held in early 2022, we are revisiting this key topic as part of our supporting resources for the The Code Showcasing engineering pledge. Featuring updated information and advice, the webinar is ideal for organisations involved in STEM outreach who are looking to improve or refresh their knowledge of careers guidance approaches.
In the session, Eleanor Eyre, Head of Careers at EngineeringUK, will provide practical tips on how to open and pitch conversations, how to connect with young people on the things they are passionate about, and how to manage questions and unexpected situations. Plus, you’ll receive guidance on how to embed essential careers information into your conversations and workshops.
Finally, you’ll get to hear from and put your questions to some of our Code Signatories who will join us to share insights of their careers' engagement activities with young people.
Code members will receive more information via email. Sign up to The Code to get access to the workshops.
