Polymer Apprentice Award Now Open – Shining a Spotlight on Young Industry Talent in 2021
Wednesday, 6 October 2021
The 2021 Polymer Industries Apprentice of the Year Award, run by the Worshipful Company of Horners in conjunction with the British Plastics Federation (BPF), is now officially open for submissions.
The award recognises the outstanding commitment and achievements of apprentices within the polymer industry. Managers are encouraged to submit their top-performing apprentices for the award, which is open to apprentices employed in technical, engineering, manufacturing and design roles. The approaching deadline for submission is 19th November 2021.
The winner will be invited to attend the prestigious Livery Companies Skills Council Apprentice Ceremony, which should take place early next year in February 2021. There they will receive a ceremonial drinking horn and a prize of £500 from the Master Horner.
In 2020 Emily Harris of Berry Global Plasgran won first prize. Nigel Stephens, Emily’s line manager, praised her for her hard work and diligence, as well as being a quick learner. He said there were no reservations when putting her name forward for this award. Speaking of her win, Emily said:
“I am excited about the future and look forward to growing within the polymer and engineering Industry. I am constantly learning new things, developing my skills each day. By working in the polymer industry there are so many opportunities and departments to learn about and I can’t wait to learn about the different departments like injection moulding and blow-moulding.”
BPF Council and Horner’s Member, Dr. Philip Hilton states:
“With a majority of female finalists last year, this indicated that the percentage of women in the industry is growing which is great news. Emily’s win is sure to encourage others to take the leap. I would encourage managers to give their own outstanding apprentices the chance to be recognised”
Do you have an apprentice that deserves recognition? If so, please visit the website for information on how to enter.
As part of the work to encourage new recruits into the polymer industry, the BPF also launched its jobsite earlier this year, polymerjobs.co.uk listing new openings for roles within the industry. Find out more here: www.polymerjobs.co.uk
