Engineering Ethics 2028 Vision

Consult our vision 2

This ten-year vision has been developed by the Inter-Disciplinary Ethics Applied (IDEA) Centre at the University of Leeds.

Much has already been achieved in embedding ethics in the UK engineering profession.  It is thirteen years since the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Engineering Council published their Statement of Ethical Principles.  Professional engineering institutions, engineering firms, university engineering departments and individual engineers are taking ethics more seriously than ever.  But much work remains to be done.

This vision sets out a plan to accelerate and focus the work of the profession in service of the public interest.

The development of the vision was strongly informed by the National Engineering Ethics conference in September 2018, which was organised by the IDEA Centre, and supported by the Engineering Council, the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Engineering Professors’ Council (EPC) and Engineers without Borders (EWB-UK).
